Description: At this time, the Rev. Ralph Abernathy (1926-1990) was the acting president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He spoke about the plight of the poor in the U.S. This was the very first program in this, the second run, of "Night Call." Ralph David Abernathy, Sr. was a leader of the African-American Civil Rights Movement, a minister, and Martin Luther King Jr.'s closest friend.
